Tuscany SCA 2.0 M4 Released

The latest milestone of our 2.0 runtime was released today, you can read all about it in the release announcement. Don't let the "milestone" name put you off as a lot of progress has been made in the 2.0 runtime and its quite usable now, and is well on the way to being a fully OASIS compliant SCA runtime so do try it out and let us know how you find it and what else you would like to see done before the final 2.0 release.

Hi guys,

I want to use tuscany 2.0, but unfortunately I didn't do... because the SCA component editor of the SCA tools created SCA 1.x component XML output.
When do you planned to release the new version of the SCA tools that supports the new component XML format?

I want to use the tuscany.war, but the really poorly documentated partikularly the SCA service deployment (what if you want to create a distributed SCA application and more than one SCA component instance runs in different machines how can I configure this, etc?)

The SCA Tools are part of Eclipse STP project, and they are working on adding support for 2.x soon as described in their project plan:

http://www.eclipse.org/projects/project-plan.php?projectid=stp.sca

As for the tuscany.war, one of the new features/initiatives in the 2.x codebase, I'd recommend asking a question on the Tuscany user/dev mailing list.

I successfully downloaded the following file to my Mac (apache-tuscany-sca-all-2.0-M4-src.tar.gz), but when I tried to untar it, I kept getting a cpgz file created which led to another tar file which led to another cpgz file, etc. When trying another avenue, I got a message that this wasn't a tar file. I don't have any problems with tar otherwise. Any help would be appreciated as I can't even get out of the starting gate !!!!!!!

I don't have a Mac but I tried it with Windows. The tar.gz file works fine.

I have seen something similar before, the issue might be that you right-clicked on the link from website and selected save as. You need to go to actually click on the download link, where you will be taken to the "mirror page" where you can then actually click and save the distribution. Please let me know if this was the case, and it solve your problem.

Luciano,
Thanks for the suggestion. Nonetheless, it did not work. It downloads an 8 mb file and I go through the same sequence as explained above. I did download the comparable zip file, a 34 mb file and I was able to unzip it fine. I also downloaded the following file, apache-tuscany-sca-all-2.0-SNAPSHOT.tar.gz, and was also able to untar it ok.

It seems there is a problem with the link to download the M4 release for Unix.

If its only 8mb that seems wrong, perhaps its something like the archive is corupt on one of the distribution mirrors - could you post the full url to the file you're trying to download?

I've downloaded the archives from the following mirror which worked on my Mac OS X Snow Leopard.

Thanks, this worked. I downloaded a 34 mb file and was able to successfully untar it. I will now try to use it. Again, thanks.
