FeatherCast on Tuscany available

A little belated now but mentioning it here as it hasn't had much publicity elsewhere...FeatherCast episode 35 is interviews with representatives from three Incubator projects, one of which is Tuscany. This was recorded at ApacheCon EU earlier this year but took a while to become available. Thats Tuscany committer Simon Laws speaking about Tuscany (the Tuscany interview starts 6:03 into the MP3 if you want to skip right to it). I'm hoping we can get another FeatherCast episode done about Tuscany at the upcoming ApacheCon US, will keep you all posted...

SCA is the forefront of the SOA frontier

Duane Nickull recently gave a podcast interview on SCA for Network World. Its about 30 minutes long, nothing about Apache Tuscany, but some good quotes like "SCA is the forefront of the SOA frontier" and "OASIS has really become ground zero for a lot of the latest developments in the SOA world". Makes for a change from just reading all about SCA, so go pop on your headpones and have a listen...

SCA highly productive, adoption inevitable!

Anne Thomas Manes gave a TeleBriefing yesterday on SCA describing it as "Potentially highly productive" and saying "Adoption may be inevitable", even mentions Apache Tuscany in passing. You need a login to view the TeleBriefing but the slides are freely available and there is a summary at SearchWebServices.com.

SCA Eclipse plugin for Tuscany

Sebastien has written an Eclipse plugin that enables, amongst other things, being able to right click on an SCA .composite file and selecting "Run As / Tuscany..." to launch Tuscany with the composite deployed. Seems pretty cool, there's more detail about it on his blog so if you use both Tuscany and Eclipse it could be worth a look.

SOA for the Business Developer: Concepts, BPEL, and SCA

The new book by Ben Marqolis SOA for the Business Developer: Concepts, BPEL, and SCA has been getting a lot of publicity recently so i checked it out at a local book shop. It covers both SCA and SDO, mentions Apache Tuscany, and has a focus on XML as the core of SOA and has two chapters devoted to BPEL. It is aimed more at the business user than a technical developer, but if you're looking for a book on SCA this seems to be pretty much the only thing available right now. (Note, googling around you may be able to find a downloadable softcopy)

Apache Tuscany Java DAS 1.0-incubating-beta2 released

October 06st 2007 - Apache Tuscany is pleased to announce the
1.0-incubating-beta2 release of the Java DAS project.

Data Access Services (DAS) works together with Service Data Objects
(SDO) simplifying handling of data when interacting with the back-end
data source and frees application developers from dealing with
tedious and error-prone transformation between end source types and
SDO Data Object Types/properties.

The main purpose of the DAS beta2 release is to fix incompatibilities
that were found with SDO 1.0 release.
